Update
The BlackVue DR-600GW was replaced by BlackVue DR750S-1CH which records at 60 FPS for smoother videos.
The BlackVue DR-600GW is a full HD 1080p recording at 30 fps dashboard camera which is sleek, discrete, and mounts easily to your windshield. The sleek black design makes it very hard to make out from a distance, so you can privately record the road.
The camera records with a view angle of 133 degrees, which is very wide and more than adequate to capture your entire field of view. The video quality is excellent in both day and nighttime.
A 16gb MicroSD card is included, and the dashcam supports cards up to 64 GB in capacity – this is enough for nearly 12 hours of HD video.
The camera lens swivels all around so you can set the viewing angle to the exact setting you want. A good idea is to keep it pointed slightly downward as it will avoid the glare of the sun and underexposing your video.
There is also an LED built in to the dashcam that can blink and notify potential intruders that a security camera is running in your car.
Recording is standard as on all dashcams – the video will keep looping until you choose to stop recording or something happens that will stop the recording and write-protect the file.
There are three video modes to record in: Normal, which is regular recording, Event, which starts recording when something happens(such as a jerk to the car), and Parking mode, which turns your dashcam into a parking CCTV. For the CCTV feature to work, you need to hardwire your dashcam into your car’s battery, though. The other two modes will work fine with the car’s own power adapter.
This dashboard camera doesn’t need a screen. The built-in WiFi lets you view live and recorded videos directly on your smartphone or tablet(iOS, Android, or Windows) using the Blackvue App, and you can save clips to your phone or even push them directly to YouTube(your own internet connection will be required). The WiFi will work within 15 meters of the dashcam, unless there is a wall or something in between, which will hamper the signal.
GPS is also built in to the dashcam, so along with the video data, the DR-600GW will record GPS data of your speed and car’s location, too.
You can also view the recorded videos using BlackVue’s easy to use software.
This camera is a CCTV, too!
If you hardwire your dash cam to your car’s battery using a device such as Power Magic Pro, you can record even when the car is off, and you’ll never have to worry about coming back to a drained battery, either.
Bottom line
All things said and done, the BlackVue DR600 is an easy to use, high quality, and discreet dashcam made by the best of the best when it comes to dashcams. WiFi transfer makes life really, really easy, and for the price, you are getting full-HD recording from a sexy, sleek chassis. If you are willing to spend a little more and want two cameras for front and back, go for the BlackVue DR650GW-2CH, which is the same as this one, only you get a separate rear recording camera too.
