Full specifications of 70 Mai Pro
The SONY IMX335 sensor, 5MPx (2592 × 1944).
The camera angle is 140 °, ƒ / 1.8 – wide enough to shoot both ways.
WiFi connectivity – you can connect the camera to your smartphone with the 70Mai app.
ADAS (Driver Assistance) functions with the separately purchased GPS module – with this feature you are warned of lane departure or about the distance between you and the vehicle in front.
What you’ll get with the camera
The package contains – car charger with 2 USB ports, the micro USB cable, a plastic tool used to hide the power cord, two anti-static stickers, and a double-adhesive mount.
Pros of 70 Mai Pro
The recordings are stored on the MicroSD memory card (supports up to 64GB), using the H.264 technology, delivering excellent image quality at the smallest size.
You can access or copy your video clips with the dedicated Android and iOS app.
You can also see the video (almost) in real time in the app.
Through the “DeFog” algorithm, it provides crisp and detailed images when it’s snowing or raining.
Recording HEVC / H.265 (1920 × 1080, 2560 × 1440 or 2592 × 1944) or H.264 (1920 × 1080 or 1280 × 720).
Supports voice commands (take a picture, record video, turn on / off screen).
From the phone application, you can change all settings including the WiFi password.
The GPS module activates Lane Departure Warning, Front Vehicle Collision, Front Vehicle Start.
Parking Parking (“Parking Surveillance”) – with the motion sensor activated, the camera can start the recording when the car is off as long as the battery is charged, and you will also have records when the vehicle is parked.
The internal battery has a capacity of 500 mAh and charges when the camera is turned on.
Cons
Update – after testing LaneAssist and ADAS, I must say is not worth to buy the Gps module. The warnings come late or not at all and is not helpful for you. So, my advice is to buy Xiaomi without GPS module.
Xiaomi 70 Mai Pro has a lower record quality with H.264 / 1080p when compared to HEVC / 1440p. You can switch recording quality and choose what suits you best.
At night, there are some “black haloes” around the moving lights (headlights, street lighting).
The GPS module needs to be purchased separately, but it is worth the extra features it offers on the safe side.
The “Parking Surveillance” function works only in the event of a collision.
It records short 1 minute clips in the loop. It would have been okay for the videos to have at least 3-5 minutes.
Relatively little download speed on WiFi. For example, 1 clip of 120MB downloads it in about 30s.
Conclusion
Xiaomi 70 Mai Pro is one of the cheapest car cameras that offer such excellent specifications.
Is it worth buying? Xiaomi 70 Mai Pro is probably the best buy as long as you don’t need some top-notch video recordings.
